Biodiversity Instructor, Department of Botany

The Department of Botany at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver invites applications for a tenure-track faculty teaching position at the rank of Instructor I. UBC Botany (www.botany.ubc.ca) is one of the largest and strongest Botany Departments in North America, offering a wide range of research and educational programs. Specializations range from the organismal to the molecular level.

 A PhD in algal, fungal, or bryophyte biology is required, with preference for experience in collections-based research. The candidate is expected to demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

 The Instructor will teach first year biology, as well as biodiversity teaching, including organismal biology courses (e.g., phycology, mycology, and/or bryology) and participation in collections-based education through the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. As a member of the UBC Professor of Teaching stream, the candidate is expected to demonstrate promise of educational leadership in enhancing biodiversity awareness throughout the Biology curriculum, as well as contributing to the sustainability pathway in Biology. The Instructor is expected to actively participate in departmental activities, service, events, and initiatives. The service component may include curatorial and outreach duties in the UBC Herbarium.

 The successful candidate must possess strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills in order to build bridges between the Beaty Biodiversity Museum and the Biology program. Experience in scientific outreach or curriculum development related to biodiversity or organismal biology is desirable.
